What tape edge does.
Tape edge is the operation that closes a mattress. It sews the top and bottom panels to the border with a tape bound seam that runs the full perimeter, and because that seam is the first thing a customer sees and touches, it is the operation where visible quality is won or lost. A seam that wanders around a corner is a defect no downstream station can hide.
Tape edge machines come as operator guided stations, where a trained operator turns the mattress into a rotating sewing head, and as automated tables that hold the mattress and drive the seam through the corners on their own. Single and double needle configurations, the corner handling method, and the range of mattress heights and thicknesses a station can close define the differences within the category.
Tape edge is the last sewing operation before packaging, so it gates finished output directly: if tape edge cannot keep pace, the whole line backs up behind it.
