Hemmer

Hemming folders for clean, consistent hems across weights and materials.

The hemmer category

What a hemming folder does.

A hemmer folds an edge under, once or twice, and feeds it into the needle already turned, so the machine sews a clean finished hem without the operator folding by hand. It is the deepest category in the folder catalog because nearly every sewn product has a hem, and each fabric weight and hem width wants a folder sized for it.

Hemming folders cover the plain turned hem, the double fold clean finish that encloses the raw edge, the rolled hem for light fabrics, and specialty hems like the rod pocket that forms a channel. They differ by the finished hem width, the number of folds, and the fabric weight the throat is sized for, which is why the category runs to well over a hundred variants.

Hemming happens at the finished edge of almost any sewn product, so the folder is chosen for the exact hem the product calls for. Selecting one means matching the finished width and fold count to the design, the fabric weight to the folder throat, and the folder to the machine and feed it will run on.
